Do you want to feel good about the future of the Catholic Church in our diocese? Sometimes Catholic adults can learn important things from Catholic young people about stewardship. This story is about a gift of $180 that was delivered to the Catholic Foundation of Eastern Montana last December, with instructions that it be added to the Foundation’s “Youth and Young Adult Ministry Endowment”. What made it stand out was that it was donated by four children – Greg, Sam, Ellie and Maggie Fulbright of St. Leo the Great Parish in Lewistown.
I love it when I get the opportunity to answer these questions from Catholics throughout our diocese: What IS an endowment? Why would I be interested in giving to an endowment? To those who ask, thank you! And for all the readers, I hope the following is helpful.
A Charitable Gift Annuity is an excellent way to provide for the Church and also to ensure a life-long income for yourself (while also receiving healthy tax benefits!). For many people in our diocese, their retirement plan includes a Charitable Gift Annuity (sometimes with the deferred income option), doing the Lord’s work, creating permanent income and providing tax advantages.
Where do you find your joy? Is it in the Lord? Through your beloved Catholic faith? If the Church is a big part of your life, or it was central in the life of someone you loved, perhaps you have already taken steps to care for it after you are gone. We owe so much to those Catholics who have passed before us who have provided for the Catholic Church in their will or trust. Your will is your final opportunity to give expression to your personal wishes. Perhaps your own parish was made stronger because of parishioners who loved enough to include your church in their will. Each of us has the opportunity to let our will be known, to establish a lasting legacy.
